A woodworker for over forty years, I have been making furniture and related items to my own design since the 1990s. I continue to focus on the production of unique commissioned and speculative works: freestanding and wall-mounted pieces, as well as small boxes and similar artefacts.
It remains my intention to create intelligible, well-considered work in wood; work that is thoughtfully connected and appropriately expressive, both materially and structurally. Many of my designs feature raised or inset sections and particular arrangements to accommodate the animate nature of the material. Relief, texture and punctuating end-grain details are often used to delineate components and define the interplay of those joined parts.
Each item is personally made at my studio-workshop, situated within the bounds of the National Forest, in Staffordshire.
I am the recipient of a prestigious Bespoke Guild Mark, awarded by The Furniture Makers Company, for design and making excellence.
Selected pieces are held by Contemporary Applied Arts, London.
Further details of my approach to making may be found within the Notes pages.
